Mao's Great Leap Forward (GLF), which could be recognized as China's 2nd 5-Year Plan which followed the failure of its first was launched in 1958. However by 1965, The GLF for China had turned out to be a consecutive failure after its previous campaign, nevertheless it was a very important phase for China politically, economically and socially. This essay will examine the importance and the significance of the GLF for China.
Politically, China steered into a revolutionary power split in politics as Mao had lost most of his political power as chairman through the GLF and foreign aids retrieving. As Mao was the chief executive of the GLF campaign, the aim was to gain individual power back again by de-centralizing China.
