We all have certain standards and morals by which we live our very lives. What if we didn't have these standards or morals, what would our lives be like? What if Amoo, the main character in Ousmane Sembène's short story "Tribal Scars" believed that enslaving his village was morally right and just? He wouldn't have taken the measures he did to make sure that his family was free from slavery. Since he has strong standards against slavery, however, and believes that slavery is morally wrong, his actions were justified in every way.

Keeping his strong conviction for freedom, Amoo was warranted when he killed his wife to save her from a terrible life of slavery.
