Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, known as OCD, is a type of anxiety disorder, which has been characterized by repetition of impulses, thoughts, or images that are intense or unusual. These thoughts are usually followed by uncanny rituals. The rituals are known as compulsions. They are usually hand washing, counting, checking, or cleaning; these are performed to prevent obsessive thoughts. With using the rituals there is only temporary relief, but it reduces the level of anxiety.

OCD is described as "the disease of doubt." People with OCD are aware that the obsessions and compulsions are irrational, but they fear that they may be true. People with obsessive compulsive disorder are often unable to decide if their fears are realistic and need to be acted upon. About 1 of 40% of people will suffer from OCD will suffer some time throughout their adolescent and adult life.
