To Build a Fire is a story of life and death, of stubbornness and peace of mind.

The main storyline is about a man trying to get from A to B, but dying in the process.

There isn't really a very clear line between Exposition and Conflict, Conflict and Climax, Climax and Resolution. But at the moments they are clear, the Exposition gives a bit of information on the setting. Cold, grey, cold, clear, cold, and white.

The Conflict is Man vs Nature. The man tries to survive in terrible conditions.

The climax, where nature wins, is a process throughout the story, and involves a stunning lack of action.

The Resolution consists of the man's death, and the dog walking off towards the camp, where the other fire-providers are.

All in all, the storyline is simple yet overwhelming, as is the theme.
