For the United States, the years between 1798 and 1819 are essentially the most significant era concerning its progress in forming a constructive sense of nationalism. The ability to emphasize nationwide rather than independent goals is what defines nationalism. Events such as: the formation of the American System, the acts of Thomas Jefferson, and the War of 1812 set the stage for a prosperous America.
The creation of the productive formation of unity in America began with the establishment of an American system. The entire initiative of the system was to strengthen and truly fuse the agendas of the individual states into a common collectiveness. It gave support for a high tariff on foreign merchandise for the purpose of protecting the American industries and generating revenue for the federal government.
