Women in the Renaissance
Summary: Explores the history of the European Renaissance. Contends that women played no key role in the Renaissance and did not participate in the rebirth of Europe.
The Renaissance was a time of rebirth in Europe from roughly 1350 until 1650 in Europe. During this time, peoples' lives expanded and new ideas and philosophies were spreading across Europe. Although this was true with the men, it was not the same for women. While the women watched their son's, husbands, and brother's lives expand, their lives contracted. During the renaissance, the women played no key role and did not participate in the rebirth of Europe.
Women did not only not participate in the renaissance, but educated women were though of as a threat to men. The women's job was to tend to their children and their husbands, and that was basically it. They were expected to get married and bare children, no matter what class they were in.
