The Electoral College is a system that was created by the founding fathers of the Constitution in 1787, establishing a method for electing the President and Vice President of the United States. Instead of a direct election by the American citizens whom are eligible to vote, a group of electors come together every four years to vote for the next President and Vice President of the United States. This group is made up of delegates who were elected by the American public. Over the course of history, there have been several times that proved the Electoral College unsuccessful, resulting in the winner of the Presidential election not getting the most popular votes.
