Debating Nuclear Power
Summary: Focuses on debating the pros and cons of nuclear energy. Adopts a more biased approach on the issue. Also briefly investigates several other alternative resources and describes issues that are associated with them.
With the world¡¦s dependency on fossil fuels becoming an increasingly alarming concern further primarily magnified by their gradual depletion, it is essential to take into consideration the wide-scale exploitation of resources to tap into their electricity generation potential. One of these which I will attempt to analyse exhaustively within the constraints of this paper, though highly controversial, is the use of nuclear power. In due course, we shall analyse its efficiency and advantages, and conversely examine the hazards underlying the implementation of such a system.
Nuclear power in itself is no new exciting breakthrough. It is employed in the world today to generate about 17 percent of the world¡¦s electricity, although dependency varies ¡V France for instance, relies on it to produce 75 percent of its electricity (IAEA), while in the US it contributes to merely 15 percent of the total output.
