The Chinese, with one of the oldest civilizations, have some of the most beautiful and valuable ceramics. The traditions of Chinese ceramics have been passed down and modified throughout the generations of China's history. The main history of Chinese ceramic art began about 8,000 years ago with hand-molded earthenware vessels after the invention of pottery. During the late neolithic period (5000-2200 B.C.), the style graduated to more uniform vessels. They succeeded in producing painted pottery, black pottery, and curved pottery. After many years of experience with kiln firing, the Chinese entered a new ceramic age during the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-220 A.D.). During this age, the practice of using glazed wares became increasingly common and popular. The production of Chinese porcelain was a major and significant achievement in Chinese history.
