Why Plagiarize?
Summary: Discusses the issue of plagiarism. Explains why many students do it. Debates why it is wrong.
How would you like to lose trust, respect, and dignity over plagiarism? Unfortunately those are some of the consequences of illegally "borrowing" someone else's words or ideas. Plagiarism is when someone decides to use someone else's work for their own, but doesn't give the original author credit for their work.
Many college students, high school students, and journalists don't see the harming effect plagiarism can have on them. In many colleges if you are caught plagiarizing you can get expelled from that institution. High school students loses the respect they once gained from a teacher, and sets a thick line between their relationship. "Students damage their relationships with teachers instead of turning them into mentors you are turning them into detectives with fostering suspension" (The MLA Handbook, 67). Journalist lose a great deal of respect from the public, and can even lose their job.
