Inu-Yasha is an anime character, who went through the steps of the monomyth archetype, and likes to hide his true feelings. The monomyth archetype has four which are separation, struggle initiation, return, and gift. Inu-Yasha experiences a lot of separation, which affects his future. Inu-Yasha goes through the monomyth archetype's first step, separation, which is the loss of his parents, love, friendship, and trust.

When Inu-Yasha was little, his parents were killed. Inu-Yasha' mother was human, while his father was killed by fighting an enemy. Growing up alone was tough because he had to defend himself from humans, and demons. Inu-Yasha could no trust anyone because they always betrayed him. Even the love of his life, Kikyo betrayed him, or so he thought. Because of this, he is devoid of trust, honesty, friendship, love, and companions. Inu- Yasha also experiences struggle.
