Finding the Molar Mass of an Unknown Liquid
The purpose for executing such an experiment is to find out the molecular mass of a volatile liquid. I would hypothesize that if the experiment is completed with out a hitch, the results will be indicative of its relation to temperature of boiling, pressure, volume, weight, and the correct constant. The main special technique or skills demonstrated in this experiment are; the usage of the ideal gas law, and the lab skills of evaporation and compensating.
Procedure
Fit a piece of aluminum foil around a small test tube and poke a small hole in the top
After finding the tube's mass put 0.5 mL of the unknown in the test tube.
Put the test tube in a bath of heating water until the water boils
Record the boiling temperature and continue until three minutes after the unknown is evaporated.
