Anna's Story by Bronwyn Donaghy is a non fiction narrative about a 15 year old girl named Anna Wood, and her tragic death, due to the ingestion of an ecstasy tablet. Donaghy positions her readers to respond with horror, sadness and outrage at the realisation that a precious life was needlessly lost as a result of drug use and abuse. Donaghy aims to educate parents and their teenage children about the dangers of taking drugs and to create a greater awareness of the severe consequences caused by drug abuse. After reading this book, I feel relieved that people are tackling this issue to prevent it from happening to someone else. Donaghy achieves her purpose through the use of techniques such as structure, tone, choice of language and repetitiveness of key words.
