George Washington and Simón Bolívar were both raised as members of the slave-owning colonial aristocracy of their countries and grew to become brilliant commanders who liberated their countries. In the eighteenth century revolutionary spirit arose within the thirteen colonies in North America. They were no longer prepared to be restrained by England and many felt that the time to seek independence had arrived. The brave colonials risked their lives to liberate themselves and succeeded. Latin Americans grew to feel the same way some forty years later and they, too, battled to free their land from the control of the Spanish. To achieve these feats the revolutionaries needed strong commanders to lead and inspire them, and George Washington and Simon Bolivar proved to be those men in the thirteen colonies and Latin America, respectively, and the two liberators are often compared.
