Life in Dhaka
Dhaka, located in Bangladesh ( refer to the map below) is perhaps the poorest mega city in the word with a population of approximately 9.5 million and growing. "More than two million invisible people live in Dhaka's slums, keeping their human dignity in the most awful circumstances." There are several challenges facing the members of Dhaka society most importantly lack of hygiene & sanitation, lack of rubbish disposal, overcrowding and polluted water. In order for the sustainable development of Dhaka to effectively take place the government and organisations need to work hand in hand with the poorer end of the spectrum, the part of society that lives in the slums, as they are the true city builders. Water Aid is attempting to provide the link between the slum dwellers and other organisations in an attempt to respond to some of Dhaka's challenges.
