Courage is often hard to define, but even harder to demonstrate. In the dictionary, courage is defined as mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty. For one to demonstrate courage, he/she must have self-confidence, both mental and physical strength, and determination. In the novel "The Things They Carried," courage was greatly demonstrated as a major theme. I think that to be courageous, one must be willing to accept a mission, no matter what it may be; someone who cares more about the goal rather than what he/she must go through to get there. Some courageous acts that were demonstrated were when Tim went to war despite his feelings, when Curt Lemon got his tooth pulled, when Tim killed one of the enemies, and when Rat took care of Tim after he got shot twice.
