Causes of World War II
Summary: Describes how Imperialism, Nationalism and Militarism contributed to the outbreak of World War I.
In the European Summer of 1914, war broke out. It was the `War to End all Wars' and went for four long years. The cause of this war has been attributed to many reasons, most of which fit into the three categories demonstrated by the involved countries; Imperialism, Nationalism and Militarism.
Imperialism was by far the most problematic behaviours demonstrated by the involved nations. Imperialism is the tendency of rich and powerful nations to seek to extend their empire by invading and annexing territory controlled by another country. European powers were so imperialistic for a few reasons; to obtain more resources and raw materials, to open their markets to new goods and services, to earn respect from other super powers, for the colonies and land that come with them, and, ultimately for power.
