The origin of the English language before the renaissance is divided into two periods. The first period started when the Anglo-Saxons or Germanic tribes invaded Britain. Many words were invented for the every day life such as sun, moon, sheep, field and wood. In 1066 the period ends when William of Normandy conquered the island and borrowed the English language, today known as old English. In about 1150, the native language was commonly used in writing so it is said that the second period starts approximately here. Middle English is the language that belonged to the second period. Words such as age and question were borrowed from the French language due to their huge influence on Britain. Words such as orange, pepper, and coffee were taken from eastern countries.
