Rap is a form of popular music developed especially in African - American urban communities and is characterized by spoken or chanted rhyming lyrics with a syncopated, repetitive rhythmic accompaniment. That is one of the many dictionary definitions of rap. Rap is often used to describe life in the inner city areas often referred to as "the ghetto." Because this form of music was formed in these poverty stricken areas, the lyrics tend to be somewhat provocative and politically incorrect. Many people interpret rap as a form of expression of everyday life, which includes racism, sexism, violence, drugs, and war; however, others believe that it is a crude and vulgar form of music that does not need to be in society.
