The Kid, A Critical Analysis

The Kid, written, produced, and edited by Charlie Chaplin, is a magnificent comedy in which, Chaplin is left to take care of an orphan child, whom he takes in and grows to love and adore. Although being a poor man, Charlie walks around just like he's the richest man alive. The film takes a dramatic turn when John is suddenly taken ill. "The Proper Authorities" come to take John to an orphanage but they are stopped by Charlie's motivation which is only enhanced by his love. Soon enough John's mother reappears into the storyline and posts a reward to get him back. She succeeds in getting her son back five years after abandoning him, leaving Charlie devastated and heart-broken until he is taken to John, paving the way for a joyful ending.
