By definition a monopoly is exclusive control by one group by the means of producing or selling a commodity or service with the exclusive power that gives the group the sole command of traffic in a given field. Monopolies have made many businesses thrive in today's society, while others competing in the same category have had failure in trying to maintain a total net income that is profitable to the business in a given economy.
