By definition a monopoly is exclusive control by one group by the means of producing or selling a commodity or service with the exclusive power that gives the group the sole command of traffic in a given field. Monopolies have made many businesses thrive in today's society, while others competing in the same category have had failure in trying to maintain a total net income that is profitable to the business in a given economy. This is due to the superior, by all means, most profitable company in the field being able to raise or lower prices, increase or decrease supply and demand, and have overall control over all aspects of their certain district of regulation.
