Factors Affecting Enzyme Activity
Summary: Explains a lab experiment which answers why and how temperature, ph, and concentration affect the chemical reaction of enzymes and substrate.
Investigation of Rate of Reaction in Different Environments
I. Purpose: This experiment will allow us to study the effect of enzyme concentration, temperature and pH on the rate of enzymes activity. This experiment will enable us to understand how enzymes and substrates work in different situations. We will be able to determine our results by determining the rate the enzymes and substrate produce water and oxygen. The results we receive will give us an understanding of how enzymes and substrate affect our bodies and our environment. This investigation will enable us to see what factors limit enzyme action in cells.
II. Materials:
Yeast (200 ml of 2% dextrose) Thermometer
- 5% Hydrogen Peroxide (3% peroxide to 1.5% hydrogen peroxide) 4 Test Tubes
- Pipettes (one for dropping yeast, the other for dropping hydrogen peroxide) 400 ML Beaker
- plastic cup (for ¨ö cup hydrogen peroxide and ¨ù cup of yeast) Ice
Lab corb interface Water
