In Margaret Clarks novel of Hold My Hand Or Else she shows what typical teenagers are really like how they care about their image how they appear what the opposite sex think about them and what cloths they wear, through out this novel Sam and Belinda go through most of the problems that normal teenagers go through today in life.

When Sam and his mother went shopping through the Myer shoe department his mother wanted to buy Sam a pair of school shoes for his first day at high school. I'll be dead before I'll wear those shoes.
