Summary: Analyzes the poem The Sentry by Wilfred Owen. Examines how the poem describes the reality of war.
The piece of literature that I have just finished reading is a poem called The Sentry by Wilfred Owen. A young soldier wrote this poem during World War One.

This poem shows how war really is.

A sentry narrates this poem. It is about a group of soldiers who have found an old dug-out which belonged to the Germans. The Germans find out that these other men were there so they start shooting and bombing it. While this is all happening it is also raining so the trench starts to fill up with mud which keeps getting higher and higher. In the trench it smells horrible because the men who have been trapped in there for days, also there are dead bodies decaying. During the bombing a shell finds its way in and hits the sentry who is the guard. He falls into the trench and so does...
