Bantu Education and Source Analysis
Summary: Explains the main aims of the Bantu Education in South Africa. Examines how all the definitions of culture, appropriate education content and levels, all the decisions about purpose and outcomes of the system were controlled by the apartheid government.
The first main aim of the Bantu Education System was to clearly separate education standards between the whites and the Blacks. I have come to this conclusion after analyzing Source A - Europe and South Africa Std 10 by A.N. Boyce, 1974. The primary source of this source states (Dr. Verwoerd) " Education must train and teach people in accordance with their opportunities in life, according to the sphere in which they live." This literally means that the Whites will receive a much higher standard of education than the Black because they (whites) had better opportunities in life and the sphere they lived in was of a much higher standard than the Blacks. This source is indirectly stated to both White and Blacks, where the Whites were in an advantage situation.
