The Courage to Differ

Life has many instances in which one must choose whether to stand apart from the group and disagree with his peers or to nod vehemently in agreement and quickly seek security as a part of the group. Many choose to follow the crowd because of the fear of rejection. They hang tightly to the bumper of the car of acceptance not worrying of the cuts and scrapes they are suffering as they struggle to hold on. Others painfully watch the car drive over the horizon and reassure themselves continually that it was worth it to stay behind. When we are older and look upon our past, we will realize that the courage to dissent or assent during our lifetimes can cause us either regret or contentment.
