A Review of My Antonia

Antonia Shimerda is a Bohemian immigrant girl who moves, with her family, to the Great Plains of Nebraska where she lives in a dugout cut into the side of a hill. Many people lived in dugouts along the plains, even though the living conditions were rough, as water would drip through the roof and there were probably bugs and other insects in the sides where they dug out the walls. She is not very familiar with the English language, but learns many things from a neighbor boy named Jim Burden who befriends her and the two become close friends. She goes through many changes in her life, from her original Bohemian culture that she is used to, to the unfamiliar American culture. She is now with different people, some of the foods are different, and she has learned how to be an American. These changes are not difficult...
