"Miriam"

Summary: An essay about the short story "Miriam" on attraction and repelling of characters.
In the short story, Miriam, it seems that the young girl that oddly comes to visit her on numerous occasions frightens Mrs. Miller. Throughout these visits Mrs. Miller is attracted to Miriam for the way she looks but is repelled by her power over her.

When Mrs. Miller first meets Miriam at the theater, she seems intrigued by such a young girl being out alone at night. She states that she ."..feels oddly excited, and when the little girl glanced toward her, she smiled warmly" (2). This statement clearly shows that Mrs. Miller is interested in Miriam and that Miriam's features have drawn her in. Even, in just meeting the young girl, Mrs. Miller does not hesitate to buy Miriam a movie ticket.
