Summary: This paper explains the different psychological and social effects that occur as the result of the death of a child.
The death of a child is an impossible grief. In a culture that values youth above all, the death of a child is viewed as the greatest of all tragedies." (Sanders 7) Unfortunately, the death of a child is more prevalent than most people realize. "On average, roughly 350 parents every day in the United States of America, endure the death of a child, newborn to age twenty-four." (Ginsberg) It is a staggering statistic and it only represents one country in the entire world. There are several different circumstances in which a child's death can occur. Some deaths are progressive, as in the case of a long-term illness; others are traumatic, as in the case of a murder, suicide, or accident. Every circumstance leads the parents on a different journey through the stages of grief.
