If you ask an American for three words to describe themselves they will probably give you words such as patriotic, strong, or proud. No matter who you ask, though some other words may be used, the word "patriotic" will probably be in there somewhere because if nothing else, America is a very patriotic nation. During the War of 1812, thirty-five year old Francis Scott Key wrote a song that would forever change America. The Star Spangled Banner, which described the events of the first war fought by Americans as an independent country shows the pride and the strength of the Americans. So no matter how many years go by or how relevant the song is to the issues of today, it all comes back to patriotism.
