Reasons for Immigrating
Summary: This essay is about the push factors that led many immigrants to immigrate to American from eastern and southern Europe in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
In the Immigration Era, "push" factors played a major role. Between 1866 and 1915, more than 25 million immigrants poured into the United States. Various "push" factors (conditions that attract immigrants to a new area) caused an extraordinary amount of immigrants from Eastern and Southern Europe to settle in America in the late 1800's to the early 1900's. Some of the push factors are scarce land, revolution, poverty and hard lives, political and religious beliefs, farm jobs that were lost to new machines etc. Along with these factors, there were other things that attracted immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe. Such of these things are promise of freedom and better life, factory jobs that were available, and family or friends who already settled in America. This essay will discuss the contents that are listed above and some other various aspects common to the increased immigration from Eastern and Southern Europe.
