Summary: This essay describes the problems within the current foster care system and what can be done to change it.
"A study by the National Association of Social Workers found that 80% of inmates in Illinois prisons had at one time been foster children" (Foster Cycling 1). It stands to reason the foster care system is visibly failing foster children everywhere. The current system places children in contemptible homes with abusive parents and then ignores their cries for help. There is undeniable evidence that the system is wrought with injustice. There is only one conclusion: the current system must change now.

There needs to be a more detailed investigation of a potential foster family before putting any children in their care. The system is failing children everywhere. In order to become a foster parent, one must "undergo a criminal background check, be fingerprinted, and have one's home inspected. Candidates are also given 24 hours of pre-service training by the county, and then must receive 20 hours of additional training each year to...
