Sinners who conceal their sins are effected as much as those who reveal their sins. In the Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the three main characters; Hester Prynne, Dimmesdale and Roger Chillingworth, change physically, mentally and/or emotionally. They all sin, but they deal with it differently. As a result, this changes their lives, dramatically.

Hester Prynne changes a lot, since the day she stood on the scaffold emotionally and mentally. She learns from her mistake and by doing so, protects Pearl from turning out like her. They are isolated from society by having to live on the outskirt of town. This makes her feel very lonely. In addition, she has to wear the scarlet letter on her bossom for the rest of her life. Therefore, she is never really accepted back in society and considered a living sin. She is kind and good on the inside, but...
