The Lymphatic system is a complex series of capillaries, the smallest blood vessels. There are two main functions, it drains tissue flooded into the bloodstream and excess proteins, and fights infections. It filters out organisms that cause diseases, and eliminates the products of cellular breakdown and bacterial invasion. It produces white blood cells and generates antibodies. The fluid is carried into the heart through the lymphatic system. It is the second circulatory system and the fluid is moved around the body by the movements in the body's muscles.
The lymph nodes are bean shaped structures, which can be as small as the head of a pin, to as large as a lima bean.
