If the Chicago high-rise housing was demolished, that many people would be left homeless when the mixed-income housing was being built. Building mixed-income housing does not help anyone if tons of people are homeless. Chicago's public housing needs to be repaired and the best way is to restore the building and not tear them down. Before deciding on whether to build the mixed-income housing or to restore the high-rises you first have to look at the history of public housing and the reason for it being built, the battle between the CHA and the politicians over the housing situation and the current living conditions in Chicago Public Housing. Only then can you make a decision on what needs to be done.
