On September 2, 2002, Sean Riggins, a vigorous high school athlete who participated in Football and wrestling, sat on the bench instead of participating in his football game, complaining of an upset stomach and a headache. The next day at the doctor's, he was diagnosed with Bronchitis, given an antibiotic, and then sent home. Hours later, Sean began to have seizures and stopped breathing. He died of a heart attack. What could have caused a perfectly healthy 16 year old boy to die of a heart attack? It was determined that the popular over the counter herbal supplement Ephedrine had caused his death. If you think that this is a rare occurrence, you are wrong. According to the FDA, there have been more than 150 related deaths thanks to this seemingly harmless "natural" drug.
