Becoming a Knight
Summary: This essay is about the noble boys and knights of the middle ages. It also contains information regarding how they became knights.
Noble boys in the Middle Ages learned to behave in a certain way known as the Code of Chivalry. Boys learned this gentlemanly behavior first as a page, and then as a squire. Successful young men then were given knighthood in an elaborate knighting ceremony.
Pages were noble boys at the age of 13 to 14. They were sent to live in a knight's manor to learn to ride, fight, play music and sing. The lady of the manor would teach the young page literature, music and courtesy. The warriors of the manor taught the young page to hunt and use weapons.
After a year or two the page would be accepted by a knight and become his squire. Squires served as a knight's fighting assistant and body guard. Squires fighting by his side in battle. The knight showed the squire how to use weapons and preached about siege warfare...
