Although several other characters are mentioned in the story, the main focus is on the narrator and his characteristics. The sequence of events, the narrator's words and his behavior in the story pulls the reader's attention to the narrator's character traits. Especially his behavior gives the reader lots of ideas about his personality. Throughout the story, a change in his character is observed with the effects of perverseness and alcohol - Edgar A. Poe has experienced alcohol problems in his real life, too.
