How Does War Effect and Change People?
On the battlefield soldiers are seen fighting bravely for their countries. The machine guns blast and the cannons boom, lives are lost and battles won. Finally, when the dust settles and the battle seems to be over, for some, it is just the beginning. The war which is fought in the minds of people affected by it lasts a lifetime, and its effects stretch far beyond just the battlefield which it is fought.
For example, in the story "Ambush", by Tim O'Brien, the author is writing the story as a sign of his guilt for a man he killed in war. He is ashamed of his actions, and will forever live in guilt. No matter how hard he tries to forget it, it will always be there; lingering in the back of his mind. Near the end of the story he states, "Even now I haven't finished sorting...
