In today's society, witchcraft is not an accepted form of explanation for extraordinary events. This is where historians must become scientists, statisticians, psychiatrists, and authors all combined to create a possible narrative of the events that took place. The only way to explain the unexplainable was to come up with what seemed to be the only possibility. The Puritans in Salem in 1692 strongly believed in supernatural powers. This came into play as they tried to explain away their fears. That is how witchcraft came to be such a significant part of Salem's history.
