What is hero/heroism? Heroes today are different than they were in the Anglo-Saxon era. For one thing, they had different codes of conduct than we do today. When I think of a hero I think of Superman saving the world, but there is more meaning to it than that. A hero consists of a good heart and love of the earth. The firefighters pulling a family from a burning building, a soldier saving his platoon from certain death, rescue workers pulling a stranded mountain climber from a precarious ledge, and the Knights of the Round Table saving a damsel in distress, are all examples of heroes.
