In the movie Dead Poets Society, directed by Peter Weir, there are many characters that add to the overall theme. The heroic John Keating, the students' English professor, stands out as a protagonist. Throughout the film Mr. Keating accomplishes his individuality in many ways. Examples of Keating displaying individuality as a protagonist is "Carpe Diem," ways poetry is taught, and believing in every one of his students. What makes Mr. Keating different is the way he starts the day by telling the boys about "Carpe Diem," and its importance.
In the beginning, as students file into English class, they notice that their teacher isn't present. When Mr. Keating arrives, he introduces himself and instructs the boys to follow him to a different place.
