The period of 1950-1970 was an era of revolutionary change within the social fabric of the United States of America. It was the era of the Civil Rights Movements where the African American population fought to overcome the inequities faced by them since the time of slavery. They fought to overcome inequities such as segregation, lack of power, impoverishment and the outright denial of basic civil rights.
