This was not the same Klan that people were used to seeing. The name, rituals, and most of the attitude was adopted by the Invisible Empire also known as the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. Mostly the same principles applied. Membership was only given to Native-Born, white, Protestant males 16 years of age or older. The targets of the new Klan where mostly blacks, Jews and especially Roman Catholics. The leader of the new Klan was Colonel William Simmons. The reason the Klan mostly attached the Roman Catholic Church was because it saw it as a threat to American ways and Values. Non-Protestants were denounced as Subversives.
