Born on March 2, 1931, Mikhail Sereevich Gorbachev is recognized as one of the most intellectual, self-confident, and idealistic man of his time. He is different from the past Soviet Union leaders because he has an excellent sense of modernizing government structure. His famous liberalization slogans of perestroika "restructuring" and glasnost "openness" have significantly changed the Soviet Union politically, socially, and economically. During his time, the Soviet Union was under strict communist rule, and was calling for a rapid industrial reformation. Earning a Nobel Peace Prize for his responsibility in ending the Soviet Union's oppressive communist regime on 1990 was just one of the numerous achievements that he accomplished during his control. Throughout his life he possessed a great love and loyalty for his country because it was always his first priority.
