The Chelonia Mydas is more commonly known as the green sea turtle. The green sea turtle is classified in the phylum Chordata, subphylum Vertebrata, class Repitilia, order Chelonia, family Chelonidae, Genus Chelonia, and Species mydas. Most of the other turtles are also classified this way, for example the loggerhead, Caretta caretta, a large-headed brown to reddish turtle, the hawksbill, or tortoiseshell turtle, Eretmochelys imbricata, the long, gray Atlantic ridley, Lepidochelys kempii, and lastly the slightly larger, greenish Pacific ridley, or oliveback L. olivacea. The only turtle not classified as the rest is the leatherback, the largest of all of the turtles, which is the one and only member of the family Dermochelidae. The green sea turtle, as to its species, is a reptile.
