The Versailles Treaty: Unreasonable to Germany
Summary: This essay discusses how the Versailles Treaty that ended World War I, also known as the Great War, was unfair and created harsh punishments for Germany.
The Versailles Treaty blamed Germany completely for the reparations of World War I. Germany lost most of its land and was forced into debt indefinitely. The payment system was virtually impossible to keep up with and Germany quickly fell behind on the payments. Although other countries in the Central Powers paid some of the reparations Germany got the harshest punishment rather unjustly as no one country could be responsible for all the cost of war.
Germany, a new nation at the time started war because of Austria-Hungary and the conflict with Serbia. Only after other countries appeared to be a threat because of mobilization did Germany declare war on other nations.
