Summary: Evaluates the changes and dramatic effects that colonization has had on Guam.
Many people feel that the colonization of the United States' territories was a good thing. I am not one of those people. Guam was colonized not once, not twice, but three times. By Spain, Japan, and the United States. In this paper I will cover briefly, the history of colonialism and Pre-colonial Guam. I will also support my thesis by going through history during the Spanish, Japanese, and both American occupations. It is arguable that Guam would not exist if a more powerful country decided to over throw the natives instead of colonizing it. However, I value autonomy and self-identity more than safety. And while it is popular belief that the Americans did help Guam in many ways, the price of freedom was great.
