Newton
Summary: Newtons Mathematical Accomplishments
Sir Isaac Newton born in 1642 died 1727. He was a English physicist, mathematician, and natural philosopher. Many people consider him the greatest and most important scientist and mathematician of all time. Newton came up with laws of universal gravitation and motion. He established the modern study of optics. He also came up with the area of mathematics called calculus. Newton also published some of his ideas in several published works Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica and Opticks.
Newton had a process for coming up with things. First he took already existing facts and came up with theories to explain them. Then he used his theories to predict the behavior of objects in different problems and then compared his predictions with what he observed in experiments. If he was wrong Newton would take his results and modify his theories.
Newton first started his ideas and thoughts about gravity when he was...
