For many thousands of years, the humans on earth have taken nature one step further. We took it upon ourselves to domesticate animals such as dogs for hunting, and cattle for food. All of these changes were made through changing the environment that the organism was in, or by other means of external conditioning. In the last few decades, however, humans have grasped the technology that can allow us to genetically engineer organisms against nature's will. Many approve of the application of this new biotechnology. Many do not.
Manipulating the genes of an organism can have many advantages. Take, for example, a Rose bush. Typically, the Rose yield is cut short by the aphids, which feed on them. Through modification of the organism's genes, actually inside the nuclei of its cells, genetic engineers can add bacteria, which carry specially constructed and grown DNA strands which replace the old...
